Principal’s Message

“A California Distinguished School”

The Focus At Hilltop Is Academics

Dear Hilltop Staff, Parents and Students,

It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome you to the 2019 -2020 school year.   My name is Karen Hernandez and I am thrilled to be returning to serve as your new principal.  I look forward to working together as we ensure that each student is provided an opportunity for the highest quality of education possible, in a safe and supportive learning environment.   I hope your rest has been sufficient and you are ready to lead our students toward the mission that has been collectively established:

At Hilltop High School, our mission is to provide a safe, supportive, and academically driven community in which all students have equitable access to a quality education so they may achieve postsecondary and career goals, as well as become productive, positive citizens.

To our students, I ask that you come to school every day, on time, prepared and ready to learn and to work hard.  My role will be to support and encourage you as you explore different possibilities and grow as individuals. Remember that with these opportunities, comes both a personal and collective responsibility to be supportive of one another.  I will count on you to go beyond tolerance and treat all members of our community with respect.  A school that aspires for greatness can expect no less.

To our staff, I pledge my commitment to work collaboratively as we strive to fulfill our mission and the district’s vision of putting each student first.  We will continue to focus our efforts to support the LCAP goals with a focus on social emotional learning for students and adults.

  1.   Ensure excellence in teaching and learning so that each student is prepared to succeed in college and career.
  2.   Create a safe and healthy learning environment for each student by building a culture of equity and a positive climate that promotes excellence throughout the district.
  3.   Foster and honor parent/guardian and community engagement to support excellence in each students’ success.
  4.   To develop coherent and transparent systems for operational excellence to support each students’ success.

The Professional Learning Communities will continue weekly meetings as the primary means to look at student work, common assessments, and annual assessments to drive our instructional practice and dialogue.  We must work together to help guide our students to attend school every day, to find their passion and to inspire them to follow their dreams.

To our parents, it is with your support and open communication that we can make a difference in the lives of our students.  We would like to invite you to be an active participant in your student’s education and welcome you to collaborate with us.  Our partnership is critical to your student’s success.

As we bring on new members of the administrative team, and we commit to our mission for all students, I am confident that our collaboration and teamwork will yield a positive and successful school year for our students, school, and community.  I look forward to working with you and to our amazing future together.   Together we can do this!
